There is an old Zen saying: if you look at the finger, you miss the moon.
Most of us take the easy way out to learn the Dharma by reading some articles, hearsays and attending the talks or lectures by some
monks and gurus. We feel that we have understood much of it and would like to quote and unquote the terminology of the teachings among friends during a meeting in a party or over a conversation. And they haven't actually experienced the real reality and practice it. This is why the Zen masters used to say most people just know the finger and have missed the moon.
