Rikko was quoting from Jo Hoshi ( A.D. 382-414) " The man who has exhausted truth is vast and void, and leaves no trace. All things are one' own making. He who realised all things as himself is none other than a sage."
In response to Rikko's quotation, Nansen said," See this flower: it is said that the Tathagata sees Buddha Nature with his naked eyes. Can you see it?" Rikkio as confident of his u

nderstanding, but when he looked at the flower he could not see Buddha Nature there, only a peony. Then Nansen passed his judgement; " People of these days see this flower as though they were in a dream." There was no denying the different in ability; Rikko was obliged to bow to Nansen.
( Are we in our dream at all time, or already awakened?)

Instead of always imposing our habitual viewpoint onto things, it can help to remind ourselves how open the world is to interpretation.
Broadening our view can loosen our grasping as self and allow us to realise how our own mental fabrications and habits obscure our peaceful nature.

There is a clear distinction between consciousness itself and the transient states that arise within it. All experiences are merely conditioned states. Through not understanding we take them to be real, when in fact they are just transient. Do not seek after them. Turn your attention to consciousness itself and become a witness to this truth. When the true nature of consciousness is seen, then you can stop, you can put all things down and rest. There's nothing more to do than this

As long as we remain on the surface of life, everyone and everything seems to exist as isolated entities. But when we look below the surface, we see strata upon strata of dynamic interconnectionedness. If we look to the greatest depth, Buddhism says, we will see a world where there is no one and no thing stands apart.

To be free of athority, of your own and that of another, is to die to everything of yesterday, so that your mind is always fresh, always young, innocent, full of vigor and passion. It is only in that state that one learns and observes.
To take a journey of discovery into the most secret corners of our minds, we must travel light, we cannot be burdened with opinions, prejudices, and conclusions. Forget all you know about yourself. We are going to start as if we know nothing.
( A Zen master uses to say, empty your cup if you want to fill it up with water.)

When a master was asked what advice he had for Westerners seeking enlightenment, said," Stay where you are."
A statement that is simple, yet profound. Be whatever you are; be whoever you are. When you genuinely become you, a Buddha realised Buddhahood. You become a Buddha by actualising your own original innate nature. The nature is primordinally pure. This is your true nature, your natural mind.

There is so much sameness in ordinary life. We are always experiencing everything the same set of lenses. Once greed, hatred, and delusion are gone, you see everything fresh and new all the time. Every moment is new. Life was dull before. Now, everyday, every moment is full of taste and zest.

Take one step at a time. Every step is different and joyful. There is no hurry. As you go step by step, you are getting closer and closer to your inner being. In each step, there is always a lesson to learn and to improve. You become lighter and lighter when all your defilment and attachment dropping bit by bit as you move along. The light is at the end of the tunnel.

Yesterday afternoon at Clementi 4pm the rain was so heavy that when I looked from my window, I could not see a thing in front of me. I needed to move out of my flat to pick up my young student to my Tai Chi Center.
At 4.45 pm I drove the car out to pick her up at 4.55 pm. She just said," Master I know the rain had stopped at 4.45 pm when you left your house."
What a bright statement she made. If she said that I had stopped the heavy rain, then she is lacking of intelligent and wisdom.
So I replied," Mother Goddess, Kwan Yin loves me so much that she didn't wanted her son to get wet." Of course she seemed to believe what I said.
As I always tell my students do good and beget goodness.
