At the time of the Buddha in India, there were no filter machines for water. The Buddha, within the vinaya, had a set of procedures for the disciples to drink water. They must first pour the water through a gauze cloth and then place the cloth back in the water before drinking. Why was this? " The Buddha beheld in a bowl of water,eighty-four thousand organisms." The eyes of the Buddha could see th
at one bowl of water held eighty-four thousand lives, which we now call microorganisms. In the light of this, we can see that we are really so extraordinary. When we swallow a mouthful of water, or better yet, ten in rapid succession, innumerable and uncountable small lives all can be engulfed into our big stomachs.
A few thousand years ago when the Buddha spoke like this, almost no one believed it and they all felt He was very trifling and picky. Now that science has advanced, everyone can believe this.

n the present day way of thinking, it can be understood as the Buddha always being here with you, always by your side. One only needs to have one thought of earnest belief and the Buddha is right here.
During later periods, a poem was written which describes this very well. It reads:

Buddha is in the very heart of one's own mind,
No need to go rashly seeking;
Vulture Peak is at the seat of one's
own heart.
Each and all have the stupa of Rajagriha,
It's just a matter of getting to the bottom,
of the Vulture Peak Stupa to observe.
There is no need to go the Vulture Peak in Rajagriha, India, to seek the Buddha. No need to travel so far when the Vulture Peak is at the heart of one' mind. Each and every being has his or her own Rajagriha Stupa , and it's just a matter of getting to the bottom of it to observe.
The Ch'an masters say," The mind is Buddha; the Buddha is just mind. The Dharma cannot be found outside the mind." To search for the Dharma outside the mind is not the Buddhist path.

Acceptance of any situation of life you are in makes one happy and peaceful.
The mind-heart is at peace ad enjoys the bliss of the true nature flowing through the whole body with love and compassion. One is in heaven already.

The Diamond Sutra from the beginning is like a camera or rather like a strong light which shows all of dust. It's clear-cut and directly to the point, not in the least mysterious. No matter which sect you're in, which methods you use, the first problem you come up against is how the mind should abide and how it should be tamed. This is a serious problem. Studying the Diamond Sutra, one sees that t
he sages of a thousand eras all sign over the this same point. The problem is just too difficult. A hero could conquer anything under the heavens, but cannot conquer his own mind. A hero could govern the whole earth, but have no way to govern his own mind. One's own thought defies submission. Sainthood is so difficult to achieve; the Tao is difficult to attain!
How the mind is ought to abide and how it is ought to be sudued?
Buddha.
( (As I always say; it is easy to tame a tiger, there is no way to tame our own mind. Can you tame your mind?)

The truth is within and not without. Seeking without, you have made your journey much longer and endless. Just remain silence with effortless effort, you see your own light much brighter than the sun. Its warmth is pleasing and blissful when you can radiate out to all sentient beings. And this is the way, the only one way.

One day a student asked his master," I am very unhappy. what shall I do ?"
The master replied," Go out and make others happy."
Can you imagine what result this student will get if he follows his master's instruction?

What is right speech? Abstaining from lying, divisive speech, abusive speech, and idle chatter.
-Samyutta Nikaya
The Buddha did not indulge in rumors or gissip. Right speech forms part of the eightfold path because speech has great power. To follow the Buddha's path, we must not engage in talk that divides people, talk that criticises people behind their backs, or talk that is just chatter to kill time. Are rumors and gossip any of these? They're all these.

Others' faults and errors are so plain,
But our own are difficult to see.
- Dhammapada
Have you ever noticed the double standard we use when we're evaluating someone else's behaviour versue our own? Oh yeah, you noticed it when other employ it! But here is why you don't see it in yourself: we judge ourselves by our intentions, while we judge others by their behaviour. Not fair! And the Buddha warns us against it, just as Jesus did. We "makes mistakes"; others "commit errors"
Think about it. This is why we're so quick to judge other people's faults and errors: it is so easy to see them. We give them no credit at all for good intentions.

Contributed by Carol Mickelsen:
"This makes so much more sense than the spiritual guides who advise people to concentrate on attracting material wealth and other good things to themselves in order to be happy."
What she meant was to be happy, all we need to do is to make others happy by words and actions. we have to be careful with so called spiritual guides are misguiding us to the wrong path.

One needs not have to attract material wealth and other good things because they will come along when one has the heart to do good and is willingly to help the poor and the needy.
One day I met a young girl who told me her way of attracting wealth and fame for herself using a special method. I told that I knew this method too. I further explained to her that by using this method I would get what I wanted. However in future event, I need to pay it back due the law of karma. Then I would suffer even greater. I told her to drop this method.
