NOV 1

1

On the evening of the seventh day of the twelve lunar month, as he was sitting meditation, all sorts of demonic realms delusion appeared before him to torment him: such things as sensory pleasures and desire for wealth, and fear of birth and death. He was not deluded by any of them. In the end, all the so-called armies of delusion, including female demons and all the rest, were vanquished by his p
ower of concentration.
In the course of this night, Shakyamuni experienced various spiritual powers one by one: the power of the knowledge of the realms of spirits ( the power of travel anywhere instantly); the power of the knowledge of supernatural vision; the power of the knowledge of supernatural hearing; the power of knowing the mind of others; the power to know at will past abodes (the power to know past lives); and the power of stainless wisdom ( the power to end all leaks and defilement). When he reached the realm of the six spiritual powers, his body and mind spontaneously emitted a great light.
As he emptied through in great enlightenment and experienced anuttarasamyaksambodhi: supreme, perfect, complete enlightenment, the next morning. Then he joyfully
exclaimed," How strange! All sentient beings are equipped with the characteristics of the wisdom of the tathagatas, but because
of the clingings of false thought, they can not realise them."

2

After his enlightenment, because he was earnestly asked to do so by the devas, Shakyamuni Buddha resolved to disseminate the teaching and bring salvation to the world. The first thing he did was to go to the Deer Park, which had been a holy ground since ancient times, to find the five men who had found him in the forests of the snowy mountains in years gone by, and who were now concentrating on t
he practice of austerities. He preached to them the four noble truths of suffering, the formation of suffering, the extinction of suffering, and the path to the extinction of suffering. One after another, the five men understood and they began to cultivate the Path according to the Buddha's teaching. They were called bhiskshus ( Bhikshu means beggar: above they beg for the teaching from Buddha and below they beg for food from sentient beings.) This was the start of Shakyamuni Buddha's teaching activities. In Buddhist terms, it is called the initial turning of the Wheel of the Dharma. It was also the beginning of what in Buddhism are called the Three Jewels: the jewel of the Buddha, the enlightened one, the jewel of the Dharma, the enlightening teaching, and the jewel of the Sangha, the community of those seeking enlightenment.

3

At this time, in the city of Varanasi, was a man named Yashas who was the son of a prominent man. Because he felt the suffering of human life, he began to believe in the true Dharma and, hearing of Buddha's reputation, he left home, went to the Deer Park, and took refuge with him. He brought with him his companions, some fifty sons of prominent men, who all became disciples of Shakyamuni Buddha. The parents of Yashas and his wife who came along and put their faith in Buddha. They became householders who cultivated practice, called in Sanskrit upasakas and upasikas.

Here's a guy who believes that money does not buy happiness!
How is this as a man of the people? The president of Uruguay, José Mujica, has earned a nickname, "el presidente mas pobre" (translation: "poorest president").
The 77-year-old recently admitted to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo that he donates almost all of his presidential salary, making him the poorest, or, as Univision pointed out,
most generous president, in the world.
El presidente explained he receives $12,500 a month but keeps only $1,250. The public servant told the newspaper, "I do fine with that amount; I have to do fine because there are many Uruguayans who live with much less."
He and his wife - a senator who also donates part of her salary - live in a farmhouse in Montevideo. His biggest expense is his Volkswagen Beetle, valued at $1,945.
Perhaps not surprisingly, under the former guerrilla fighter, who was elected in 2010 as a member of the left-wing coalition, the Broad Front, the country has become known for being one of the least corrupt on the continent.
Mujica has no bank accounts and no debt, and he enjoys one thing money can't buy: the companionship of his dog, Manuela.
The Uruguayan is not the first president to donate his salary. U.S. President John F. Kennedy, who came from wealth, donated his salary when in office, as did President Herbert Hoover. Hoover, who grew up poor, decided to never accept money for public service, so he could not be accused of corruption.

When you realise that there is no good or bad in the world, the whole world, heaven and hell are within you. Your mind is free from suffering. No one can stop you from attaining happiness and peace. You are the world.

Tao
When you want to discuss a subject,
Put yourself outside the matter
And fathom the situation's advantages and disadvantages.
When you want to take up a matter,
Put yourself in the middle of the thing
And forget all reflections on profit and loss.

During his first stay of three months in the Deer Park, Shakyamuni Buddha had already accepted fifty-six faithful disciples. He sent them out in all directions to propagate the teaching. He himself went alone to the city of Rajagrha in the land of Magadha beside the Nairanjana River and displayed his spiritual powers in order to convert those followers of outside paths who worshipped fire. At the
time, the three chief teachers of orthodox brahmanism were the three brothers Uruvilva-kashyapa, Nadi-kashyapa, and
Gaya-kashyapa. They came leading their thousands disciples to sincerely take refuge with Shakyamuni Buddha and become his followers. Next, Buddha won over the scholars Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, who were famous among the brahman communities for their intelligence and wisdom. These two also brought along a hundred disciples, and all of them became followers of Buddhism.

8

Tao just works it own way to nourish the earth and living beings with compassion and unconditional love. If we live pure heartedly and follow the law of nature, we are in prefect balance and in harmony. That is the way of Tao.
Tao can not be explained. You can only feel its greatness and love when you move along with nature. Just like when you drink your own cup of tea and you know its taste and it is difficult for you to explain how the taste is to your friend. This involves wisdom.

9

When Shakyamuni Buddha was about 80 years old, that is, forty-eight or forty-nine years after his enlightenment, on a summer day as he was passing the rainy season in the village of Beluvana near the city of Vaishali, he let it be known that he would soon enter nirvana. Then he set off toward the north on his last journey, to the city of Kushinagara. Under the twin sala trees in the sala grove whe
re he had been born, Shakyamuni preached the Dharma to the elderly brahman Subhadra and when he had finished, he accepted him as his last disciple. Then he appeared to be sick and did not get up. He lay down on his right side and entered nirvana.
The date of Shakyamuni's death in Western terms was about
490-480 B.C. He died at midnight on the fifteen day of the second lunar month. His disciple Mahakashyapa hastened there from Spirit Peak and took charge of the funeral rites. As Buddha lay in his golden coffin, he unexpectedly showed his spiritual powers: he extended his foot to put Mahakashyapa's mind at rest, then he entered into a profound stillness.
When Buddha was about to die, his disciples asked him what would happen to them after his demise. He then instructed them very earnestly that, after he was gone, they should take the precepts of discipline as their teacher. This is why Buddhists ever since have looked upon the precepts of disciple with the same respect they give to the scriptural teachings that he imparted, and have followed them faithfully.

When you don't see good or bad of a thing or a person, that
your true self has been reviewed. Practice and hold it longer of your true nature.
Once the clouds of defilment come in, you will start to make judgement or discriminate at thing. Then your dream begins again. The waking up or your enlightenment sometimes just come in a split second. Try not to miss it. The longer you can see your true self, the better. The chance of getting the completed full enlightenment will not be too far away. That is known as the knowing of suchness. ( 2 cents opinion)

Physical desire may rage like fire,
But if you think of what happens when you get ill,
Your fervor will turn cold as ashes.
Fame and fortune may be as sweet as candy,
But if you consider the place of your death,
They will seem like chewing wax.

Filled with desire,
You are like waves seethin ove a cold abyss:
Even in mountains and forests, you will not see peace.
Filled with emptiness,
You are like a cold breeze born from intense heat:
Even in town and market, you will not know noise.

The bird that rests long will surely fly high;
The flower that blooms first departs swiftly and alone.
Knowing that,
You can avoid the misery of dragging your feet;
You can extinguish thoughts of impatience and haste.

China's economy has grown at a tremendous pace in the past few decades. With an expanding market and impressive GDP growth rates, the world is now paying more and more attention to China's mature and upstart cities, as well as its booming i
ndustrial developments.
However, as Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam pointed out recently, most of the country remains poor.
With an
economic and labour crisis looming over it, the situation is unlikely to get better.
Yet, many people are still focused on the richer urban dwellers in China, choosing to ignore the increasing wealth disparities between the urbanites and rural dwellers.
What is worse is that many are also unaware that the poverty gap is not restricted to the urban-rural divide. In fact, the polarisation is increasing within the city as well.
Many of China's poverty problems are worsened by inadequate health, education and social assistance.

Whatever, you think, speak and act is Dharma. Our five senses with the mind provides us with so much to learn as Dharma. Dharma means learning to live in appreciation of all things that concerns us and learning the reaction of our true self with the outer and inner world, knowing that we are living and existing in the real Buddha world.
2

Life is a movies or a dream. When one realises it, one understands that whatever we cling on too or any form of possessions that we have accumulated can not be carried to the next world. The sorrowful and painful events are water bubbles which will be burst in a short while. So as happiness and joy. They are all just fantasy. The only thing that is lasting and will be able to follow us across the sea of samsara will be your merits and wisdom.

3

Reading books but not seeing the wisdom and intelligence within-
This is being a slave to paper and print.

Performing great achievements but giving no thought
to seeds of virtue for the future-
This is only flowers blooming and whithering right before your eyes.

~ Tao
Hide your skill a show of inabilty:
Display dim-wittedness, but continue to be bright;
Let your purity reside within the muddy;
By means of bending, let yourself extend.

5

When you can or know how to live from moment to moment, you would not see the fear in the future and you would be lost or sad of your past. Living right here, at this moment, you are blessed by all Buddhas or God. You only see your true nature existing this wonderful and mystified world. This is an easy way to learn and know the Dharma.

Zen practice helps one to develop a mindful mind that sees things in its orginality. It helps to focus on everything that we do with awareness and with one-pointed mind. Only then you realise how blissful and joyful you are in engaging with work and relationship with the living beings. Hence your mind-heart which is full of compassion, warmth and loving-kindness is reaching out to anyone whom you are in contact with.
2

Students' failure to understand the Tao and attain Tao is all due to instablity of mind and insubstantiality of approach. If you succeed in emptying all objects, being aloof of everything, reducing and reducting until you reach nondoing and your heart is clear and calm, then the inner work is done. When you then go to build up virtue and cultivate action, taking hardship on yourself for the benefits of others, doing what is necessary in each situation, unaffected by wealth, poverty, authority, or power, walking the earth unattached, passing the days according to conditions, all psychological afflictions gone, then the outer work is done.

Question: According to the legend of the founding of Chan Buddhism, once Buddha held up a flower before an assembly, and his disciple Mahakasyapa alone smiled, Buddha said," I have the treasury of vision of truth, the ineffable mind of nirvina-I entrust to Mahakasyapa." What was this smile?
Answer: When Buddha help up the flower before the assembly, no one but Mahakasyapa saw the enlightened mind; that is why he smiled. Therefore Buddha entrusted to Mahakasyapa the marvel that is beyond doctrine.

I used to tell my fb friends just chant the sound 'OM' for their beloved ones who had serious illness, or going for a medical operation. Whether you are a Buddhist, Christian, Hindus or with or with out religious belief , the chanting of OM sound to ask for help from the Supreme Consciousness is the simplest way if you don't know any mantra or a way to say a prayer. On my part, I will also do a p
rayer for your beloved ones who are sick or hospitalised.
The sound OM is an universal sound which has a powerful healing force or energy belongs to Nature. You hear this sound when you are in silence coming out from your inner self. You can hear this sound when you are standing near to a sea or an ocean. You can hear this sound when you are at the top of a mountain. The ancient enlightened sages or masters learn this sound from our Mother earth. Chant this sound as often as you can for your own personal protection or for others. OM............... (Practice the OM sound ev
ery morning, a count of 108 times. Breathe in gently and recite the sound from your base, three fingers below your navel. Let the OM sound vibrates all the way to the top of head and release the sound out through all your pores.Listen the sound with your ears and let the sound moves back into your system to do the healing and to release all your negativities and depression. After the chanting, close your eyes for 5 minutes and enjoy and feel your inner peace and happiness. Good luck.- 2 cents opinion.)

The lustful mind is blind to the simple presence of things as they are. With the senses continually reaching toward pleasurable encounters, the mind is left unguarded and seduction is a constant threat. To steady the mind, you don't need to change what you see, smell, or feel; you don't need to eliminate pleasant encounters. You need, instead, to control how you relate to sensory experience.
The B
uddha taught:
A man's sensuality lies in thoughts of passion.
Sensuality does not lie in the world's pretty things;
A man's sensuality lies in thoughts of passion.
While the world's pretty things remain as they are,
The wise remove the desire for them.
As the Buddha describes," He takes his food experiencing the taste, thought not experiencing greed for the taste."
With the development of wisdom, you will understand that senual desire is not pleasure; it is suffering; it is a force that inhibits the deep peace and rest you seek.

2

Removing all your cabbage from the inside of you, you will find that your true self having the bliss and peace. You true self is like a still, crystal clear pool reflects the reality of living and its changes. With that wisdom you can accept and adapt life as it is. True happiness and compassion will last and they are beneficial to all living beings.

Accumulate accomplishments and deeds,
Be of service to humanity.
Turn the attention inward as well
To find receptivity and creativity.
Rouse the awareness within,
And the tiger roars the wind,
Wash away dust from the senses,
And the dragon makes rain.
Action and illumination need the polar star
Of constant, unwavering insight;
Fostering the true and removing the false
Is up to stillness, the warrior of darkness.
By the time conscious essense
Comes from the abode of spirit,
The sense of reality has already reached
The abode of vitality.

People of this world wrap themselves in chains
For the sake of profit and gain,
Then talk of the world of dust, the sea of bitterness.
They do not know that
Clouds are white, mountains blue.
Rivers run, rocks stand tall.
Blossoms invite, birds laugh.
The valley responds, the woodcutters sing.
The world, after all, is not of dust;
The sea, after all, is not bitter.
It is only that, on their own, people put dust and
Bitterness in their hearts.

Chant the mantra, OM BENZAR SATO HUNG~ 嗡 班雜 薩埵 吽~ helps one to clear away the aeons past life defilement and karmic negative behaviors and clear away one's karmic debts.

Seeing things, you see the mind; without things,
mind does not appear.
In the ten directions, open or blocked, the true mind
is omnipresent.
If you conceive intellectual interpretation, it turns
into a false view.
If you can see objects without minding, then you will
see the face of enlightenment.

Tao just works it own way to nourish the earth and living beings with compassion and unconditional love. To accept the problems and follow the law of nature, many things can be dissolved. There is no punishment incurred by Tao. If one can see the mistakes made and is willing to transform to be better person and follow the way of Tao, automatically one will be nourished by Tao.

Once you have caught the fish or the rabbit you naturally forget the net and the trap.
The raft to cross the river, the ladder to the heights: once you have reached the goal, they are abandoned.
Before you are enlightened, you need explanations; after enlightenment, verbalizations become wrong.
~ Buddha
Even though these lines belong to noncontrivance, they too are to be shed.

Contibuted by Chan Wai Meng
“Tell me and I forget,
teach me and I may remember,
involve me and I learn.”
These words strike me hard. When I was conducting a lesson of Tai Chi lessons to some students after telling how to practice, they would forget all the movement after a few days. So when they came back to me, I had to teach them again hoping that they would remember. After a month, again the
y made many mistakes as they went along. For those whom I made them involved with the teaching, help to teach new students, they could remember all the steps. From here, I realised that I got to get them involved with the teaching, then they would learn. Likewise, some readers used to ask me questions to explain the postings that I had put up, actually helped me and my readers to get involved with the learning. As a result I could understand much better in my spiritual path. Hence the readers who posted the questions and comments are my teachers too.

He constantly abandons useless mindsets and cultivate useful
mindsets. He is resolute and concentrated in his effort. He never abandons his efforts toward achieving useful mindsets
~ Aguttara Nikaya
The Buddha urges us to keep laserlike focus ( one-pointed mind ) on our vision or objective- to be unwavering in our concentration. A man with a mission does not dissipate and waste energy on useless distractions. Nor does he cling to negative mind-sets.
The Buddha teaches us that focusing attention on the desired goal and letting go of internal hindrances are all that is required for success.

~ Tao
The realm of dust is the world of sound and form, the land of name and gain where misery is taken for pleasure, where the artificial is taken to be real. Diminishing the vitality, wearing out the energy, destroying essence and life, in it there is death only. Those who realize this and go beyond it are people of attainment, those who are unaware of it and fall into it are people astray. Therefore since ancient times, the immortals and real people who achieved the Tao took care of their family and social duties when they were young, thereby fulfilling human ethics; when they reached the age of forty they practice the Tao of not stirring the mind, whereby they preserved their essence and life. After all, a hundred years is only a brief interval, a lifetime of glory and disgrace is a blink of an eye. If you do not know how to return to the fundamental and go back to the origin, to return to the root and go back to life, when the limit of your time here comes, even if have a pile of gold you'll leave empty-handed.
" Even if you accumulate a mountain of gold, can you buy off impermanence?" Truly this is a golden bell, a drum of truth, to wake everyone up.

2.

~ Tao
If You let go of things, your body is not stressed; if you contrive no artificiality, you mind is naturally at peace. Serenity and lightness develop day by day, while involvement in objects grows thinner day by day. Your actions become further and further from mundanely, while your mind becomes closer and closer to the way.

3.

~ Tao
When the mind no longer wanders vagrant but merges with the way and rests calmly in the way, that is called return to the root. Keeping to the root without straying is called serene stablization. Over a long time at this, diseases vanish, life returns, returns and continues, so you naturally come to know the eternal. Knowing means nothing is obscure; eternal means there is no change. Emancipation from birth and death really come from here.
